    Coronavirus

I asked one of the women involved with the Covid Tracking Project and her response was, "It's not mutating significantly or at a pace that will make a vaccine ineffective." The level of T cell and B cell immunity is still being researched though and there appears to be some data that indicates...

    Coronavirus

It's positive news but they don't have evidence yet that it actually prevents infection, just that it appears to be minimize severity of symptoms. Which means getting community spread under control is still a priority.

    Coronavirus

WRT the denial train: our daughter's (virtual) violin teacher rescheduled her lesson a couple of weeks ago because she had a fever and didn't feel well. Two weeks later and she was apologizing for not sending notes in a timely fashion the last few weeks because she's having a hard time...

    Coronavirus

I was pleasantly (?) surprised that our school district has a COVID dashboard, by age group, by school, and students/staff. I was looking at their website to see if they've posted an action plan re: how many active cases before a school is shut down. I could not find one. We've received three...

The Bluetooth coding system is built in to the iOS (there's an option to turn it on) but it doesn't do anything if the state does not have an app? I've been wondering what the disconnect is.

    Coronavirus

We were originally told that selections would apply for the entire 'semester' (two grading periods). There must have been significant pushback because a couple of weeks later they announced that elections would only apply for the first grading period. Waiting to see what happens after the next...

    Checking In

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get a PIN code. Also, thank you for being a teacher. As a parent of two children homeschooling (both older than first grade), I have even more appreciation for the antics you have to deal with. All but one of my 5th grader's teachers seem to be...

    Keeping busy at home

I'm from Texas and that all sounds like way to much work for me. But then I like beans in my chili. And I have a recipe for a chili that's vegetarian. Maybe I just like stew.

    Coronavirus

We had fooled ourselves into thinking that by enrolling the girls in virtual school their schedules would be more 'stable' as cases increase and they have to shut down schools, etc., etc. Because they have a (significant?) number of kids returning to school they have to transition some of the...

RV as a Vacation Investment For Disney and General Vacations

You might be able to find RV resorts or storage places near airports that would allow you to park short term. And some may offer shuttle service. My parents own a bus-type RV and I think the biggest expense or issue they've had over the years has been tires. Otherwise, I would consider what...

    Keeping busy at home

I have found wood chips for my husband to use on etsy. More variety than the standard in grocery stores, etc. The last box I bought were Whiskey Barrel chips from BarHomeDesigns but I've also found wine barrel chips.

Seen any good movies? Or bad ones?

Curious what 'regenerative agriculture' means for your situation. I follow the Terraton Initiative on Instagram and they have some interesting ideas. But I have always wondered how easy it really is to implement big change.

    Rant thread

I guess "Incoming 4th graders" doesn't have a shiny enough connotation? Or maybe the "incoming" has too negative a connotation? Now all I can picture is kids flying overhead towards the school and all the teachers ducking.

Seen any good movies? Or bad ones?

I would like to see the western they were filming in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

Most of the sitcoms we watch are in syndication. While we do seek out whole series occasionally there is something more organic to watching the series as laid out by someone else (most of the time). But it can be confusing from a timeline perspective. I grew up watching shows in syndication...

Our Sunday nights now include watching episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Twilight Zone (original series) - MeTV, I think. It's eerie how on point The Twilight Zone episodes can be.

Is it in a Dutch baby or is that from the custard settling? Either way - looks lovely.

    The Office

We watch it on Comedy Central when it's on. And also have strong feelings about certain periods in it's programming, though I wouldn't throw out all of the episodes after Carrell left. There are some with Carrell that we have to skip because the situations are soooo uncomfortable (Scott's...

Our district included the need for a device in the survey we had to fill out to make our virtual or face-to-face selection for the first 'semester'. We had a Chromebook already but needed another device. We definitely would have bought a second Chromebook but bought a macbook instead because we...
