Bay Lake Tower review

We own at Bay Lake Tower and this review is from our first trip home in October of 2009. We'll be going back at the end of his year.

My husband and I were on this trip.

We drove our car from Texas and parking was not an issue when we arrived. Check-in is at the regular Contemporary check-in desk. We did not do online check-in that time but check-in was very easy.

We had a fantastic room! We stayed in a Lake View studio, room 8106, which is on the outside of the C in the North Tower. We had a view of the Magic Kingdom when standing out on the balcony and watched the fireworks each night we were in the room. The music for the fireworks is played over the television but you do have to crank it a bit loud.

We spent a couple of evenings up on the Top of the World Lounge. It was pretty much empty both evenings we went up for drinks.

One of the best parts of BLT is the location and transportation.

1) Walking to the gates of the Magic Kingdom would take us all of 5 to 10 minutes if we were slow moving. The best part of the walk for me was meeting the other families walking to the park in the morning and chatting with the very excited kids.

During the after hours parties or late emh, this ability to walk 5 or 10 minutes back to the room was heavenly.

2) We ate mostly at the monorail resort restaurants and Epcot when we weren't in a park. That was fantastic with just being able to hop on the monorail and have the selection available to us between the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary and Epcot. It was especially nice for Victoria and Albert's since we had the wine flight and getting home was just a monorail ride away, if you get my drift.

3) We rode the monorail to Epcot and where you do have to change at TTC, it was still never a long trip and we hardly ever waited more than 10 minutes for the next one.

4) When we did ride a bus to AK or HS, upon leaving we had two choices instead of just one. If the Magic Kingdom bus came before the Contemporary, we would just hop on that one as it was just a short walk from there back to the room. We did the same thing for riding to AK for our meal at Sanaa in that we just rode the Magic Kingdom bus back and forth.

A studio works very well for the two of us. When we went they had the bathroom sink in the kitchen and that was a bit odd but easy to get used to. Since that trip they have been remodeling the rooms to move the bathroom sink into the shower/toilet area. We'll have to see on our next trip if that seems better or what to us.

Being in the North tower means you can see the Magic Kingdom from your room but it also means you have a long walk to the elevators and getting to the Contemporary. There are definitely advantages/disadvantages to all the locations in the the Tower.

The pool was nice and the slide was decently fun. We don't do a ton of swimming at Disney since I'm a big lap swimmer. Just floating around in a pool makes me itch to do laps so I'm not a good reviewer of Disney pools. But the pool was never very crowded.

Due to the distance from our room in the north tower and the Contemporary, we did not get a refillable mug as it was just too far to go to get a refill for the size of the mugs. For us, it made more sense to bring sodas and drinks to keep in our fridge in the room. The distance to getting into the Contemporary could be an annoyance. I think it was equal distance to go to the Magic Kingdom! Okay, maybe not in reality but it sure felt like it.

To sum up, we love Bay Lake Towers. Even though we are usually not traveling with kids (my nieces and nephews when they come) there are tons of things for adults to love and enjoy about BLT.

Thank you! I'm dying to stay here and love to read every review I can about people's experiences at BLT.

We are not DVC members but stayed at BLT for two nights back in December. It was pretty nice but the studio room was smaller than I expected. It was smaller than a studio at Villas at Wilderness Lodge. Bathroom sink was still in the kitchen, but you had a full size fridge which was nice. I am a bit confused as to the original poster saying that it's a long haul from BLT to the Contemporary. We stayed on the fifth floor and all you had to do was go to the fourth floor (I think) and take the breezeway over to the main concourse. It puts you right where the shops are. Much shorter than the haul from the South Garden Wing. As it was December and cold and rainy, we didn't swim, but when we stayed in the Garden Wing in May 2010 we longed to try out the BLT pool, especially the zero-entry pool (we have small kids). All in all, I would stay at BLT again -- and we actually are in September 2011 (a 1-bedroom this time as we'll have 3 adults plus 2 kids).

One of you is going to have to escort me to the Bay Lake Towers one of these days.

Or one of these scratch tickets is finally going to need to pay out.

Josh -- we've found great (caveat - FL resident...) deals at BLT if you're persistent. We're getting a 1-bedroom in October for seven nights for a little over $2100. All in all, that's not bad. We've not DVC members either. It's cheaper than our standard room at the Polynesian for seven nights in May (also FL resident discounted).

I'd love to stay there one day! I've stayed at all the DVC properties at WDW except BLT and SSR.

Thanks for the reviews. We are also going in October 2011 (9th - 15th). This will be a first time stay at a monorail resort for my wife and children and I don't think she fully comprehends the convenience of staying that close to the Magic Kingdom and having the monorail. I found a great deal for a stay at AKV -Kidani village in a 1 bedroom last year and she loved it. I think this will be even better.

I just found these forums yesterday. Thanks for the review RonnieRoo, we are owners at BLT and our first stay will be in June. Our countdown is in double digits so we are very exicited! My family is not DVC members either.

However, we have stayed at BWV 2x and BCV 1x. Always in a one bedroom (there are 4 of us total, kids ages are now 6 and 7)

We love the Epcot Resorts and love DVC!!!!! (we always rent points....)

This year, we are staying at BLT (lake view) and are so excited!!!!!

May 28th through June 6th

I am excited for many reasons including:

-MK access
-Monorail access- we are eating at almost all monorail resorts (1900PF, V&A, Ohanas, CM, Narcoosees, etc)
-2 bathrooms instead of one
-The "newness" of BLT
-Waterparks for 1st time

Basically, I am about to go out of my mind in anticipation!!!!

58 days......

Will report back for sure on our experience:mod:

Sounds awesome. I will have to scrape together all of my advertising revenue, check the couch for coinage, and see if Disney will accept $9.17 for a night there.

-The "newness" of BLT
While this was one of the attractions that prompted DH and I to rent in January, I was surprised at the "mileage" our BLT studio room had seen. There were chips in the dark laminated dresser, stains on the carpet, the door stop was ripped out of the floor and hanging on by a shred like a loose tooth waiting to be yoinked, and the upholstered arms of the love seat were showing some serious wear and tear already. These things I noticed, I am doubtful DH did.

Don't get me wrong, we had a wonderful stay at BLT, and of course, these small items had no bearing on our wonderful trip!!

We, too are staying BLT in October. I can't wait. I did not realize that it was that long of a walk to CR though. We are booked for studio lake view, def want higher up even number room so we can get view of MK so I guess our trek to CR will be a little ways.

Missy - we're staying at BLT too in October - 1st through the 8th. We'll be in a 1BR Standard view. I put in a request to try to get one of those rooms that has a bit of a MK view...we'll see!
