Keeping busy at home

Anyone trying to keep their spirits up with Disney at home? Things you're doing to ward off cabin fever?

On Saturday as I drove home from work I got a room ready text from my family. The kids greated me with a "check in desk" in the family room and an offer to escort me to my room and a tour of the resort (I felt bad to ruin their fun, but had to decontaminate before I could take their tour lol). They even taped room numbers on all the bedroom doors.

I got texts at work with pictures of their Casey's themed lunch of hot dogs while dressed in baseball gear. Dinner was beauty and the beast with a bunch of rose paper crafts decorating the table and everyone required to speak with horrible french accents. Tiki room breakfast with pineapple and everyone wearing a leftover lei from our last Polynesian stay.

Today they are still debating between Avatar and Star Wars. At least the banshees and droids are no longer languishing in the toy box and are getting some use. By day 50 we might be stretching for a Carousel of Progress themed day.

Every night is movies under the stars with a selection from Disney plus.

I'm happy the weather is nice enough to be able to run outside since our gym is now closed. Nothing like a few miles to knock down the stress! Lots of hikes planned for the kids and their karate and fitness classes are going virtual for now. They will eventually have some virtual school work but the school is still working on logistics.

Would love more ideas, what is everyone else doing to pass the time?

Lego sets (about to start Steamboat Willie) and Disney+. I may have to get out some puzzles that have been sitting in the closet for years. Love your ideas! Looking forward to the weather getting better here so I can also enjoy some long walks.

We watched Toy Story 4 on Disney+ on Saturday, and my 14-year-old, who was genuinely upset at the ending of the movie when we originally saw it, turned off the movie right before Woody decided to stay with Bo and her gang (I assume this isn't a spoiler for anybody here but I somehow still feel compelled to hide it) and said, "Well, that's enough of Toy Story 4!" It was soooo funny - I love his sense of humor.

I think I'm going to set aside some time each day for a walk with the kids, and set aside some time each day for all of us to read together. They're supposed to get an online schoolwork plan this week. For my 5th grader it will mainly be review, but I don't have any information yet about what's coming for my 8th grader.

I've been trying to work out a plan for independently completing the 70.3 distance for my race that was cancelled on Saturday. I don't want to swim at the Y at least for a couple of weeks because although we all feel fine, we did just spend a week surrounded by thousands of people at WDW and I don't want to inadvertently carry anything to the folks over there. And I just realized that the park where I'd want to swim in the lake may not be staffed at the entrance gate and I couldn't get in (which is too bad because it's a huge open space perfect for socially distant activities). Sigh. Maybe I'll just do the bike and run (which is what the race was going to have been anyway - they cancelled the swim due to algae before they cancelled the entire event).

It looks like a rainy week in our forecast but hopefully we can sneak some outside time.

My daughter has become obsessed with watching videos of other people on vacation. I'm not sure how I feel giving support to these social media influencers who get free stuff from Disney. Sometimes its nice to have 20 minutes to get something done around the house while I know she is watching family friendly content.

Your daughter and I have something in common. A while back I got hooked on watching cruising vacation videos when planning and dreaming of a cruise. It took me a while to realize some of the videos were from "influencers". Some videos were just regular families having fun and the influencers were more like a timeshare pitch. I like positive attitudes, but EVERYTHING isn't as perfect as they make it out to be. Anyway, I agree with you. I am not sure about it either.

Well, I have totally wasted my time so far. I have been watching the news for the most part. We did get a college visit in before the state started to shut down. Last week was spring break. First, it was extended through this week. Now it is extended through Good Friday. I am a teacher and will go back to work on a "modified" schedule next Monday. Who knows what that will look like and what we will actually be doing. I need to clean my grout and finish weeding.

This might be a good time to try Disney+.

The one she became obsessed with is with Brad & Hailey Devine. She likes watching the girls her age do stuff on the ship. We had watched the cruise video a bunch of times, then saw they were at Disney World. When they said Disney had invited them, picked them up in a Minnie Van and then upgraded them to a nicer room at Riviera, it was clear. What do I need to do to have that happen to me?!

We will be sure to watch tonight. Thanks Mark!

We've got some serious fort building going on at home today. It's almost half the room covered. It keeps them busy so I'm not complaining:)

I should note, this being a Disney community, that though I'm not particularly a fan of the DKMs, I do know that some of their songs have "#$%" in their titles and a few, not most, of their lyrics are not family friendly. Whether they modify for the global streaming audience I cannot guess.

For those missing a St. Patrick's Day parade or party:

The Dropkick Murphys are performing tonight in Boston at 7pm Eastern US time: no live audience but streamed worldwide on multiple platforms. This is the first time in 24 years they have not performed in front of an audience on St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Love the Dropkick Murphys!! So kiss me, I'm... :)

Watch Martin Scorsese's mom make pizza on Late Night with David Letterman:

Wife had never seen Goodfellas so we stayed up late (after kids had managed the TV all day Saturday) and her response was "wow, that was a great movie."

Of course, the opposite end of the spectrum vs. Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 we watched the rest of the hours of the weekend.

Lots of Disney+, lots of building toys, dog walking, throwing baseballs, Nintendo, oh, and lots of mess. My work is still "being a hero" and having us all come in, so my poor wife is dealing with all the chaos at home during our scheduled spring break. Our schools just closed through Easter but will be going virtual next week (?) so maybe that relieves the play time needs for a while.

We feel uber fortunate to have squeezed in our trip a few weeks ago. My thoughts go out to all those who are being "COVIDIsneyed" at this time. It will come back and it will be that much sweeter, IMHO.

Everybody hang in there!

Seriously - me too! Maybe I should start making vacation videos. I will say that I was upgraded to Club Level last summer at YC. That was fun.

Am in high risk category on two accounts so have been 'sheltering in place' since Saturday.

Disney activities: watching Disney movies/tv and shopping disney pins on ebay
Non Disney activities: playing WoW, tracking news/virus updates and eating chocolate 😋
